Tory MPs urge George Osborne to cut VAT on hotels and attractions

Dozens of Conservatives MPs are calling on George Osborne to cut VAT on hotels and tourist attractions as fears rise about the advance of the UK Independence party in coastal constituencies at the general election.

The Cut Tourism VAT campaign, supported by 87 MPs, has called for value added tax to be reduced from 20 per cent to 5 per cent, bringing the UK closer to other European countries.

VAT on hotel stays is charged at 6 per cent in Portugal and 7 per cent in Germany. In the Netherlands and Belgium the rate is 6 per cent in hotels and theme parks. Read More »
